New Years Brings Resolutions
posted by LisaDarlene at 2:05 am

So it is THAT time of year, a new year that unfolds, a fresh start on life. Perhaps a redeeming of ones self through the hopes of starting in to a new year with new attitudes and perspectives. For me, honestly, the start of a new year means that I have to remember to write that number down on my cheque. No more 2004, it is 2005 silly girl. That is about it. As I get older, the coming of a new year reminds me how fast the last one went. It absolutely goes by FASTER and FASTER! (more…)

Unwrapping
posted by LisaDarlene at 1:48 am

Well I finally got to opening up all of my presents today, after much hoopla going on with these Xmas parties and such! I love collecting presents that are wrapped up-every year most of my students bring me gifts for which I tell them that I cannot open till Xmas day! I like that sort of suspense, and since I usually know what my family is getting me BEFORE Xmas, I like to be surprised! (more…)

And so this was Christmas
posted by LisaDarlene at 4:37 am

Burp-I think I finished eating the last of my Christmas dinner, for now. After all of the intense chaos of last night I got to sleep, for a small amount of hours. As I sit here and type this, it is REALLY way too late and I have not opened my presents from my students yet. Oh it will happen, tomorrow for sure! There is also a HUGE snowstorm happening as I type-blowing snow and a snowfall warning with a proposed high of -27 degrees Celsius. Talk about living in Calgary when yesterday it was +9 degrees Celsius with barely any snow on the ground! (more…)

Meet the Family-A True Xmas Story
posted by LisaDarlene at 6:51 am

Can anyone say “whirlwind” weekend?? It almost doesn’t feel like a weekend, and it certainly was far more exciting and eventful than all of my weekends for many months! Every year my family has hosted the Xmas Eve bash with tons of family members showing up for, dare I say, the best Xmas dinner in town. It is always complete chaos because there are cousins, aunts, children of cousins, girlfriends of cousins, uncles and then my family. Needless to say there is always a lot of food, snacks, noise and drink. So pull up a chair my friends, grab a cup of hot cocoa, perhaps some of that chocolate you so badly want to eat, and join me in this story of my family’s holidays with a few new additions! :) (more…)

My Christmas Recital
posted by LisaDarlene at 2:27 pm

Whew and so it is now over, the whole Christmas preparation and finalizing-for music that is. Yesterday was my annual Christmas concert that I held with a student/teacher of mine. We put together a nice little show-well BIG show. Sheila (my student) made up these terrific looking programs with colored pictures everywhere, and we set up a seperate room with table settings, Xmas ornaments and candles for the post reception. It looked really nice! I had the Christmas music of Celine Dion playing in the background during the reception until she became too noisy even for me! (more…)

Oh My Pants!
posted by LisaDarlene at 1:57 pm

Well as luck would have it, those long lost missing pants of mine that I couldn’t for the LIFE of me find? They came back!!! Oh yes, but this time they walked themselves in to a kitchen cabinet. Yup, my mom found them just out of sheer luck. I have NO idea how the bag with my pants got in to the kitchen cabinet drawer, neither of us would have EVER put them there so it makes NO sense really! Of course, I was all excited to see my pants again, but rather disappointed because I knew I wouldn’t get a refund.

Then I checked the bill!!!!

Looks like any purchases made between October and December CAN be exchanged up until January 9th-annnnnnnd since I bought the pants in November, I get to actually exchange them for something fun and glitzy! YAY! I really need a few fresh outfits-lol all this after I said I wouldn’t buy anymore clothes again, but I don’t have enough of the glittery and sparkly outfits-just the more funky ones. Ah well. I am just thrilled that 1.5 months later my pants turned up, in the cabinet!

My Final Assessment
posted by LisaDarlene at 1:08 am

Perfect timing after posting that venting blog which made me sound mean and grumpy! I just went to click off my email and found my narrative assessment emailed to me by one of my professors. He is my field advisor, basically the guy who heads the class where we go to in order to talk about our experiences at the school or workplace we were put in.

Profs are supposed to give 2 assessments per term, so it was nice to read this one especially after having a poopy day :) I am interested to know what the other 2 teachers have said as well! (more…)

Just Breathe
posted by LisaDarlene at 12:41 am

This is the time of year where everything is going nuts as it is, not to mention the children who inhabit it!! It is all quite ironic because before I went to teach today, I was watching Oprah’s Favorite Things episode, where she gives out all the things she likes to teachers in the audience-not to mention the brand new cars! Boy those teachers were screaming over EVERYTHING, even the lipgloss, which I thought was pretty funny. It was a nice tribute to the world of teachers and as I watched intently, I realized that one day I will be on that path, though I doubt I will ever make it to Oprah-land! (more…)

My First Apple
posted by LisaDarlene at 10:59 pm

So yesterday was my final day at school with everything coming to a close. Last minute presentations, homework and final projects drained the daylights out of all of us. If you looked around at everyone in every single class of mine, they as well as myself had grown ghastly bags under our eyes, dark circles, had no sleep, or very little of it, and looked like we were taking a train ride to death valley. Never in my life has a degree or class taken SO much energy and mental thinking. In the end, it has been an extremely intense three months and I am sure it will get way MORE difficult. That is ok because I am definitely realizing that this is what I want to do. In some shape or form. (more…)
