My First Half Day
posted by LisaDarlene at 4:07 pm

Today (well pretend it was 40 minutes ago) I had the chance to start my training with the place that I have been assigned to by my agency. First off, I had my alarm set up for a disgusting 6:45 am which is a new thing for me. I was able to fall asleep at 12:30 which was good because I was dead tired. I don’t know why I woke up at 6:00 am-totally woke up…how irritating because lordie knows that I didn’t want to be up at that hour-but I magically did. Then again, I usually wake up WAY earlier accidentally when I know that I have to be up earlier than usual! I tossed and turned until 6:45 but got out of bed and got ready. I had my demure outfit picked out-tan jeans that are more like khaki’s, a tan tank top, and a dusty rose blazer with a nice brooch-trendy and funky yet low key. I didn’t want to wear something that would get me in trouble. (more…)

Catching Some Rays
posted by LisaDarlene at 11:02 pm

Well today was a busy day for me and it all started when I had to wake up at a horrifying 7:45 am! Yup-been a LONG while since I have had to do that but my music workshop was at 9:00 am. I am very glad that I went to it because I got a TON of free stuff for an entire new series that is coming to the stores soon. It is always nice to have something new and refreshing to add to the teacher stuff every year. The seminar went great and I didn’t even think of the 3.5 hours it took to get through it! I ended up getting some great deals on piano music written by current composers that sound SOOOO great. I have to admit that I am not one for workshops, but I want to get more serious about my work as the year rolls by, and hopefully when I am done school next year, I will be able to devote more time to my own musical teaching! Getting Some Calls-FINALLY
posted by LisaDarlene at 2:30 pm

Well finally this staffing agency is calling me and better yet, I am actually home to take their calls! SHEESH! This morning I had 2 calls from the agency but somehow didn’t hear my phone go off. When I called back, the one job offer was to work 8am-5pm downtown. I told the girl I would have to think about it because that is SUPER early for me and to think of trekking downtown before 8:00 am? Insane! I said I would call her back once I thought it over. Then I listened to my other message and it was another girl from the agency. I decided to call her and find out if she had called ME to offer the same job or something different. She was really nice and told me that the job offer was the same but there were 2 locations-one in the North East and one downtown. (more…)

Garage Sale!
posted by LisaDarlene at 1:03 pm

A few days ago in our mailbox, I received this general notice from my community about an attempt to do a PARADE OF GARAGE SALES. I read through the flyer and was excited. I have collected SOOOO much stuff that it is so hard to store in our ever full basement. Especially over the years with my teaching in studios, I have purchased and put away soooo many trinkets as well. I have wanted to do a garage sale but since we are out of town, it is rather hard to get anyone to come around-of course, I could have been wrong because I don’t know much about conducting garage sales. I have been to a few of them and have always seen little pieces of crap on the tables. Blah! (more…)

Another One Gone
posted by LisaDarlene at 3:19 am

U-G-H! Today was SO one of those days…I had a 1:00 appointment with the consignment store to get rid of more clothes that I found in a bag downstairs, so I rushed out to that and arrived 15 minutes late..no big deal though-I did a bit of shopping around while the lady decided on what she wanted to take in to sell…she got most of my loot which was great and a few things she said to bring back in the fall. Perfect. Then I found out that my account had some good money on it so I cashed in on that-let me tell ya, I have made over $500 bucks in the past month on clothes I have sold-but LOTS of clothes and shoes and jewelry that I don’t wear anymore. Thing is, I still go and buy MORE! ARRRRRGH! (more…)

The Diva Cup
posted by LisaDarlene at 12:17 am

This is really disgusting to me…like GROOOOOOSS!! I just came across an article talking about this new “Diva Cup” that is coming out for women-so I had to look it up on the net and I found this:

Diva Cup

Apparently, this is a new way to say NO to tampons and NO to pads. You purchase this silicone based cup that is no bigger than an egg, and you insert it in you. From here foreward, you let the blood and fluid collect in this cup and then you take it out, empty it (every 12 hours or so) and put it in. I dunno, but that is sickening for me. My mom says it would be the same as tampons but I don’t think so. Tampons go in you with an applicator and absorb the goo-then you pull them out and throw them-you barely have to touch anything but the string. Pads allow the goo to collect and absorb in to the lining-so when it is full you take it off from the top, roll it up and throw it out.

This whole cup idea seems really gross to me-you pull out this cup (which you cannot tell me would be comfortable inserting, even if it IS silicon-you gotta twist that sucker in a small knot before you get it in you!) with the goo that is collected in it, hope not to sneeze or else the goo will go flying everywhere-and then feel the warmth of the goo through the silicon and then actually watch yourself EMPTY the blood and blah in to your sink!

I tell ya, if you have a weak heart or stomach-I can imagine more goo coming out of you, but from the wrong area of your body!! I don’t care if the site says you will collect 3-4 ounzes during your entire cycle, the point is, you gotta come in contact with that red and brown stuff and literally SEE it in the cup! Red wine in a glass will never be the same way again!

I cannot see this thing as being comfortable to get in and comfortable to get out..call me crazy, but I think I will stick to being a Non-Diva and continue relying on my pads! YECH!

Then again, that could be me…but I can totally see the slogans now-a woman is holding up a cup that looks like an egg…with an ad that says behind her, “Have you had your DIVA today??” EWWWWW!!!!

My condolences to the men who had to read this, and my greater condelences to the women who are actually wearing this!!!!

Salad With Crunch!
posted by LisaDarlene at 10:22 pm

The other day I went to Safeway and browsed through their salad section just cause I like to do that sort of thing. Normally I am not a fan of buying salads that are pre-made because the salad is usually wilted and the quantity of what you get NEVER matches the quality!! I had noticed a new kind of salad that was rather large in the cooler. It was called BBQ CHICKEN SALAD! I looked through the lid and could see the usual Iceberg lettuce (although Romaine is soooooooo much better), with shavings of mozzarella, fresh corn, chicken breast that was diced, a few tomotoes, red onion, and fresh black beans and the kicker?? BBQ Corn chips that were sliced thinner than the usual kinds!! I decided to try the salad tonight and put half of it on my plate-usually I do that because they are sooo big and I can’t fit everything in. Well I drizzled the salad with the sauce that came with it which was called BBQ RANCH from Litehouse! (more…)

To Temp or Not to Temp
posted by LisaDarlene at 10:32 pm

Yesterday I came home to a message that was left for me on my machine at about 11:00 am. When I got the message it was 3:00 because I had to work that cooking school from 11:00-2:00. It was the girl who recruited me to work with Diversified Staffing, and she said that she had a job opportunity for me and that I needed to call her back right away. So I assumed that I was actually HIRED by the company since nobody had told me of my marks based on the test. When I called the girl back, I got her machine and left a message. (more…)

Cooking Chinese
posted by LisaDarlene at 10:21 pm

Yesterday I had the good fortune of helping out at the cooking school that I had already worked with last week. There was going to be a Chinese chef from a local restaurant coming in to cook up one dish for the school. My job was to assist which was tricky because the chef didn’t speak much English and he had an interpretor with him. When I saw what the dish was going to be, I thought EWWWWW! The chef was slated to cook Sweet and Sour Fish with Pineapple! I am not really that crazy about fish-fish, you know, the real fish…give me squid and shrimp and that makes me happy, but fish? Yech! Attempting to Temp
posted by LisaDarlene at 12:39 am

Today I went downtown for the first time in a lonnnnnnnnng time for my appointment with a staffing agency. I had seen their ad looking for summer students on an online ad site, I sent in my resume and they called me for an appointment. I booked it for this afternoon so that my mom and I could head downtown and make a little day of it. We barely go down there but when we do, it is nice to see what the stores have to offer. I walked in to the building and had to wait for a bit while I filled out my information on a sheet. Not long after, a short girl came up to me and interviewed me for about 6 minutes in total. Then she said she wanted to test me on my Word proficiency, Data entry, and Excel. (more…)
