Practising What I Preach
posted by LisaDarlene at 11:13 pm
Is that even how you spell the word “Practising”?? You would think as a music teacher that I would know that word inside out!!
Anyways, I just finished my 2nd day of training at the Calgary Humane Society today. It was a very tough day as the place is severely understaffed and there is SO much to do. Yesterday was my first attempt at waking up before 6:00 am and get ready quick enough to leave the house by 6:30 for an arrival time of 7:00 am on the other side of the city. I didn’t have too much of a hard time waking up, partly cause I barely slept to begin with. Thankfully the morning sun is out so that helps me in the mornings!! (more…)

INXS-The Review
posted by LisaDarlene at 10:33 pm
What a concert!! I must admit that I never thought I liked the music of INXS when Rock Star was on, but then I realized that when all the old songs were being played again, I knew all of them. These were the songs I grew up with in my younger childhood and knew them perfectly. I guess I DID like INXS back in those days though I never owned a cassette tape of theirs, though I do remember watching the videos with Michael Hutchence in them. (more…)

What a bunch of Crocs!
posted by LisaDarlene at 9:16 pm
And so comes the conclusion to my search for the craziest looking footwear since those Birkenstocks hit the market years ago. As you all know, I stumbled across those wild looking shoes through a flyer in the magazine called Holey Soles (read the blog entry just before this). I have since been able to compare them to the CROCS
that I found at the other store. (more…)

Holey Soles

I dunno if this is a fashionista find cause these shoes are butt ugly and obnoxious, but I am fascinated by them. I saw one girl wearing the purple pair months ago and thought, “Geeze those are UGLY”, but ugly to the point that I was intrigued. Then I saw one of my students wear them and they ARE ugly and hers were bright yellow…but I am still fascinated by them. I got a flyer in the mail about a store in Chinook center selling them. I was at another store and saw them and tried them on. They ARE ugly-however, it was the coolest feel when I put them on! Mind you, they range to about $30.00 in price and the ones I tried on were only $17.00 so they may have been knockoffs.
I am STILL fascinated by them…and when I found this website, it definitely made me more curious. I tend to like the ones with the holes in them cause they look cooler-but they are a culture shock. I am also interested to hear that they are perfect for 12 hour days and that they massage the insides of your feet. If I have to be on my tootsies all day, you can bet I am more concerned about my back and not throwing it out of whack.
I wonder if curiosity will kill THIS cat and if I will just head over to the mall to check them out. I like the hot pink holey shoes best…maybe the red for follow up~! If I am gonna wear something shocking and ugly, at least the color should look good!

Got the Offer

A few months ago I went online at the Calgary Humane Society to look around at the animals on their site. I found a place to become a volunteer and signed up for the information session. Then I saw that the Society was hiring for an Animal Care Assistant and decided I would send in a resume with that as well. Never hurts-about a week later I got a call about my wanting to volunteer with the place and signed up for an orientation session for June 1st. (more…)

Does He Make You Proud?

What a show!! Tonight was the last American Idol episode we are going to see for a good handful of months. Despite the season being totally out of whack and the winner being Taylor, I have to say that the finale was perhaps the best one yet!! Good job Idols!! I really liked the opening segment straight in to the music with Carrie and the two finalists. I have hated past finales because they spend so much darn time on those who didn’t even MAKE it on the show!! (more…)

Final 2 Go for the Prize
posted by LisaDarlene at 10:19 pm
The second last show of another season that has had us hooked from the start, American Idol is slowly coming to a close. Thank goodness for Canadian Idol starting up soon or else it would be so sad not to have anything to watch.
Tonight the top two should have consisted of either Chris or Elliot or even Mandisa. Katherine performed her single very horribly and it made me wish Chris was there to blow her out of the water. (more…)

Waiting in Line

A few days ago I was at a COOP store to get something quick to eat before going to work. It was too hot that day to bring any food with me and leave it in the car-especially since I left the house earlier to avoid the pesky Friday afternoon traffic…and the long weekend rush. I was very excited to see that COOP had their warm Beef Barley soup in the big pot ready to go. I love that stuff and scoop it up whenever I find it. Lucky for me it came with a half sandwhich combo which was perfect. Once I picked it up I had to stand by the cashier at the deli. There was already another man waiting very impatiently along with an older man in a wheelchair. He was clutching a KitKat bar with peanut butter in it and seemed to have been waiting quietly for a while. (more…)

Ok so here are pictures from my concert last weekend. They didn’t really turn out the greatest and when I had to crop and then fix the lighting, the pictures turned out blurry! Here we go: (more…)

Idol Loses its Last Good Man
posted by LisaDarlene at 11:32 pm
Another good one gone and this time he even shed tears of sadness. I had a feeling that Elliot would end up getting the axe tonight. Even if he gave the BEST performance of his life last night he still would have been ousted. Clearly talent just doesn’t seem to belong in the top 2 spots this year. Ok don’t get me wrong, Taylor and Katherine ARE talented but I don’t believe that either of them have the entire package to wow everyone. Who knows, maybe they will release killer cd’s or something! I just haven’t been wowed enough times to actually want to care about what they sing. (more…)
