Life this past year has been good-honestly, if you are still alive and healthy while reading this entry, chances are, it has been a good one for you too. Come and join me as I try my hand at re-visiting my past year for you!! (more…)

From Idiot to Awesome…..
posted by LisaDarlene at 10:47 am

What a weekend this has been!!! Running between two schools and managing to teach and do business all at once is very tough sometimes!! Friday I had to set up my hall for the concert and what a task THAT was-it is an open showroom that isn’t used by my landlord at all…so imagine all the dust and the look of the washroom! OY!! No matter how many times I mopped, it looked dirty and my Crocs were leaving prints. I ditched the idea because my back was not feeling great with all the twisting and turning, trying to clean unfinished slate. Either way it got better but I assumed that all the chairs on top would hide everything anyways. I fancied up the place quite a bit with decorations and candles and candies all over the place so it looked pretty nice. Did that for over 3 hours (imagine the fun it was to get 4 chairs at a time from the next building over and going back and forth until there were 36 chairs sitting on the floor!!!), then I had to work at Yamaha and teach for about 4 hours! It’s Good to be Home
posted by LisaDarlene at 11:50 pm

And a week later, I finally returned home from my long seminar in Toronto!!! I haven’t had much time to recover as today I had to be at my place for a piano tuning early in the morning-ONLY to wait and wait…and wait and not have the tuner show up!!!! At least I unpacked and sort of settled in before I head in to my first week of seeing all my students again after Labor day!! Anyways, the trip to Toronto turned out quite differently than I expected!! (more…)

Some of My Jewels!
posted by LisaDarlene at 9:32 pm

Yes I know….a blog post about jewelry-what more could there be to life?? I originally had this blog drafted up in December some time because I wanted to show you all pictures of jewelry that some of my students bought me. I admit I was quite thrilled that my students remembered to NOT bring me any chocolates or wine, yet they got creative with actual jewelry! I guess I got lazy and never posted the pictures so I figured I would do that tonight. (more…)

Very Temp-ing!
posted by LisaDarlene at 3:44 pm

Story of my life for the past month-temping! The past month has definitely been a busy one with the usual 8-5 work day which everyone who knows me will KNOW that I find it disgusting. However, it has brought me some money which helps. The sad reality when you are a music teacher is that your students want to take the summer off, and as their teacher I want to take the summer away from them too. Therefore, you get no money over the summer unless one student is nuts enough to want a lesson or two. So the temping agency comes to the rescue which is quite nice. Finally I started accepting positions in the South East and all of a sudden I got more phonecalls. (more…)

Kitty Karma
posted by LisaDarlene at 11:23 pm

This is the name of the program of which I volunteer under at the Calgary Humane Society. Basically it means that volunteers come in to spend time with each kitty, play with them, love them and just be good buddies to them. I have been doing this for only 2 weeks now and LOVE it! I don’t even mind the halfhour drive because the karma around this whole place is just so positive and happy. Since I already worked at the HS for 3 days, I really know my way around and know the procedures. The only thing I am sad about is the fact that their washing machines don’t work and they have to throw out anything that is even used once by an animal. So if you have extra blankets or towels, don’t be afraid to donate them. (more…)

Volunteering
posted by LisaDarlene at 11:05 pm

Today I had a meeting at the Calgary Humane Society and signed up to be a volunteer with them instead. We agreed that I could work with the program called Kitty Karma where you get to play with the Kitties in every kennel and then put them back. It is a great little program that I saw some other ladies take part in when I was working there. So I will be doing that every Thursday from 11:30-1:30 until I go back to school or if I am working or temping during the summer. I start this Thursday. It will be nice to be back in that area of the building and NOT have to worry about breaking my back trying to care for the Cats. Plus a few hours is nothing really and the time isn’t too early either.

I just hope I don’t get scratched or clawed at by any Cats even if I USED to hate them before working at the Society! ;)

The 3 Day Job
posted by LisaDarlene at 12:33 am

Quite possibly my shortest job ever…oh wait, I worked for about 8 hours at Spa Lady one day when I was 17 years old and was late for music lessons so I decided to quit! How dedicated!!

After writing that last long ass entry about my enjoyment of working at the Calgary Humane Society, today I decided would be my last day there. I went to bed in severe pain-almost as bad as when I first had my initial back outtage a few years ago which has had me visit the Chiro every month or so since then. I got up and felt stiff but was happy my back was a bit better, however, in the car my shoulder muscle was already very tight. (more…)

Practising What I Preach
posted by LisaDarlene at 11:13 pm

Is that even how you spell the word “Practising”?? You would think as a music teacher that I would know that word inside out!!

Anyways, I just finished my 2nd day of training at the Calgary Humane Society today. It was a very tough day as the place is severely understaffed and there is SO much to do. Yesterday was my first attempt at waking up before 6:00 am and get ready quick enough to leave the house by 6:30 for an arrival time of 7:00 am on the other side of the city. I didn’t have too much of a hard time waking up, partly cause I barely slept to begin with. Thankfully the morning sun is out so that helps me in the mornings!! (more…)
